The Math for
the Trades course is designed to help instructors effectively
teach essential math skills required in the UBC. Participants will explore
instructional strategies, hands-on exercises, and assessment methods to improve
students’ math comprehension. The course integrates practical applications,
job-specific problem-solving, and curriculum development to support math
learning in trade environments.
This workshop will cover:

Identify and prioritize key math skills
necessary for trade professionals.

Develop instructional tools, such as lesson
plans and schedules, to effectively teach math.

Use hands-on activities and real-world examples
to make math engaging and applicable.
·
Integrate math instruction into existing trade
curricula to enhance student comprehension.
·
Apply different assessment methods to evaluate
students’ math proficiency.
·
Demonstrate best practices in math instruction,
including organization, application, and mental math techniques.
·
Incorporate instructional resources into lesson
planning, such as job sheets, worksheets, and digital tools.
·
Address students’ attitudes towards math and
implement strategies to reduce math anxiety.
